Safer gambling in new markets: embedding consumer protection from the ground up
This session will explore how newly regulated markets can embed effective responsible gambling frameworks from the outset, and the challenges of doing so in environments where infrastructure, data and support systems are still developing.
Case study: Ukraine
The session explores the evolution of Ukraine’s gambling market since its 2020 legalisation. The market has undergone substantial de-shadowing, while still developing its consumer protection framework. A key focus is the work of the Fair Gaming Space initiative, which aims to strengthen responsible gambling practice through education, research, and NGO collaboration. It also examines gaps in awareness, harm prevention, and education amid broader instability influencing behaviour and policy priorities.
Case study: Brazil
Exploring Brazil’s newly regulated gambling market, this session provides an update on how player protection and responsible gambling are being embedded and the work still ahead, while examining the balance between rapid growth, compliance, and long-term sustainability in a politically sensitive environment.
